It has since expanded to help students, both young and old, who are improving themselves through courses of Basic Skills. I am now teaching clients ranging from Key Stage 1 through to undergraduate level. I operate a one-to-one system of tuition from my home in the beautiful village of South Cave in East Yorkshire, England. The revision homework sheets that I've produced have been so successful that I've created a further 5 sheets, bringing the total to 15 in all. I've even had a couple of students say that they enjoyed them - and they said I'm sad! 'AS' Level maths revision sheets now available! Key Stages 1, 2 & 3 |
Key Stages 1 and 2 are undertaken by Primary School children between the ages of 6 and 11 years. Key Stage 1 is done in Years 1 and 2, with the end of key stage assessment happening in Year 2. Key Stage 2 is embarked upon in Year 3 and culminates in the end of key stage assessment in Year 6 at age 11 years. Key Stage 3 occurs in the early part of their secondary education from Year 7 to Year 9. The end of key stage assessment is taken in Year 9 when the child is 14 years old. Such assessments can take a toll on young people, so it is absolutely essential that every consideration is given to providing enough support to help them achieve their full potential. GCSE (Key Stage 4) |
Key Stage 4 is when the student embarks on his or her journey towards GCSE accreditation. It begins in Year 10 at age 15 and finishes 2 years later at the end of Year 11 when the final exams are undertaken. This is a time of great pressure on the students. As well as having to complete coursework and homework, they are expected to revise perhaps 8 or more subjects. Engaging a good private tutor is one way of ensuring that a systematic method of revision and subject understanding is employed. I also provide realistic mock exams under proper examination conditions. This gives a true assessment of the student's abilities and is beneficial in giving him or her confidence in the art of sitting exams. |

'A' Levels, NVQs, Further and Higher Education |
Year 12 sees the onset of higher education. There is a wide variety of courses now available -- A and AS Levels, NVQs, GNVQs, as well as numerous certificate and diploma courses. Most, but not all, of these have final exams in Year 13 when the student is 18 years old. Of course, all of the above mentioned courses are available to more mature students. Those who want to can go on to study at university, either residential or distance learning such as the Open University. Any one of these courses can cause distress to pupils who are struggling for whatever reason. In addition, the advent of the new modular 'A' Level courses has put a sustained pressure on some students. One-to-one tuition often helps students to understand the trickier concepts involved in subjects like maths and physics. |

Basic Skills |
Many adults who left school early did not achieve their full learning potential. This could mean a series of dead end jobs or a lack of deserved promotion. Others might be brilliant at most subjects, but hopeless in maths etc. Basic Skills courses are designed to fill in the gaps and provide students with increased confidence as their abilities improve. I offer a very confidential service to those people wanting to increase their potential. This could be the first step towards gaining a GCSE, or maybe you're just fed up with being embarrassed about one topic like spelling or grammar.
